How to use a Loofah sponge

Luffa (or Loofah) is a genus of tropical and subtropical vines in the cucumber family.
The fruit of these species is often cultivated and eaten as a vegetable. It is very popular in India, China and Vietnam.

The fruit must be harvested at a young stage of development to be edible. Otherwise, when the fruit is fully ripened, it is very fibrous. Luffa are not frost-hardy, and require 150 to 200 warm days to mature. The fully developed fruit is the source of the loofah scrubbing sponge which is helpful in bathrooms and kitchens. It is soft and friendly to the skin but scrubs very well. No chemical needs to be added so that the loofah is usable. It is a completely natural household product that is absolutely kind to the environment.

If you are new to this natural product, here is some tips for you to use it efficiently:

  • Wet the loofah in warm water for 10 minutes.
  • Apply soap to the loofah: better use soap than body wash.
  • Scrub your body with the loofah: The circular motion will help remove dead skin cells and is gentler on your skin than scrubbing up and down.

How to take care of a Loofah sponge:

  • Rinse your loofah after each use. Use hot, clean water, making sure all the soap is gone.
  •  Dry the loofah completely between uses. Put it in a place with good circulation so it can dry completely. Drying it out will prevent bacteria from forming inside the loofah.
  • Sanitize the loofah once a week: run it through a hot wash cycle with your towels, run it through the dishwasher, microwave it for 30 seconds, or boil it in hot water for several minutes to kill any bacteria that might be growing.
  • Replace your loofah every three weeks: For example our set has 3 loofah with reasonable price so it is always available for you to change the sponge.
